Boulder County Falls Prevention Month 2024 Schedule
One in four Americans aged 65 and over fall each year. A fall can have serious impacts on long-term health, day-to-day function, and independence. The good news is that many falls can be prevented. Join us to learn how strengthening community connections can keep you and those you care for safe with our activities during Falls Prevention Month 2024. See the full calendar.

Stepping On Program 2024: Stay Independent & on Your Feet!

Thursdays, Sept. 5 to Oct. 17 (7 Classes)
2 to 4 p.m.
Boulder East Age Well Center

This seven-week series is based on behavior change and fall prevention, focusing on balance and strength exercises, medication review, vision review and home modifications. Participants will learn to build and maintain the physical strength and balance to walk confidently, what may increase the risk of a fall and how to avoid it, and how to make an individualized fall prevention action plan. Instructors include Injury Prevention Professionals from Boulder Fire-Rescue, Boulder Community Health and Intermountain Health. Sign up.

Attend a FREE CarFit appointment

Thursday, Sept. 12
12 to 3 p.m.
Lafayette Senior Center

CarFit is a FREE, educational program that teaches participants how to adjust the settings on their personal vehicle for the best "fit" to increase safety on the road. Each appointment will be approximately 30 minutes in length and will take place in the parking lot of the Lafayette Great Outdoors Waterpark parking lot.   • Review 12 key areas of the fit to your car such as ideal space from the steering wheel, mirror adjustments, and properly adjusted head restraints.
  • Learn how to use and adjust safety and technology features in your vehicle.

A Mindful Approach to Falls Prevention Class

This class offers tools to develop present-moment awareness and apply evidence-based fall prevention techniques to everyday life. Facilitated by injury prevention and mindfulness professionals from Boulder County Area Agency on Aging, Boulder Community Health, and Intermountain Health Good Samaritan Hospital.
