BCH Joint Replacement Program Wins Recertification

Biennial Review by The Joint Commission Yields Success for BCH’s Total Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery Programs

August, 2016 -- Boulder Community Health recently received national recognition for its knee and hip replacement programs.

The Joint Commission recently completed its biennial survey of BCH’s Joint Replacement Program at Foothills Hospital and granted renewed certification for both services. The Joint Commission is the nation’s largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.

Successful accreditation by The Joint Commission is recognized as the Gold Seal of Approval™ in health care. The accreditation indicates that Foothills Hospital’s Joint Replacement Program underwent a thorough on-site review of the quality and safety of care being provided and is committed to continuously meeting rigorous national standards.

Foothills Hospital is one of only six Colorado hospitals to have earned these important certifications. The certification is valid for up to 24 months.

The survey highlighted the shorter average length of hospital stay for patients who get hip or knee replacements at BCH. Thanks to advanced surgical techniques and rehabilitation protocols at BCH, those patients have significantly shorter hospitalizations than a national benchmark for top-performing hospitals.

Other highlighted strengths of BCH’s joint replacement program include frequent pre-operative patient-education classes, comprehensive patient education booklets, a thorough orientation process for new team members, and high level of engagement between physicians and BCH leadership.
