Obstetrician or midwife — The choice is yours

We recognize your expectations are unique and that the pregnancy and delivery team must be the right fit for you. That’s why you can decide to have either an obstetrician or certified nurse-midwife care for you — starting at the moment you know you’re pregnant to the instant you cradle baby in your arms.

Obstetricians: Our obstetricians-gynecologists, or OB-GYNs, offer a more traditional path to delivering your baby. Some parents-to-be are more comfortable going through pregnancy and childbirth with a highly trained physician who has completed four years of medical school followed by a four-year residency program, making an obstetric path the right fit. Also, patients experiencing a high-risk pregnancy have the benefit of being cared for by specially trained physicians.
Certified Nurse-Midwives: As registered nurses who’ve earned their master's degrees in midwifery and undergone special training, our certified nurse-midwives care for patients with low-to-moderate risk pregnancies and are seeking a more natural birthing experience. Nurse-midwives are strong supporters of empowering maternity patients throughout their journey and bringing a nurturing, emotionally oriented approach to natural childbirth.

All of our maternity patients give birth at the Family Birth Center at Foothills Hospital in Boulder.
