Breast Cancer Services

Together, Boulder Community Health and Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC) are fully accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). This accreditation means we have the structure and resources to provide the highest level of breast cancer treatment and services.

A whole-person approach to breast cancer care

We know that treating breast cancer is more than attacking the disease with state-of-the-art medicine. It’s also about recognizing that each person comes to the journey with their unique challenges, needs, preferences and goals — that the well-being of patients must meet both their physical and emotional needs during every phase of care. We call this our whole-person approach to breast cancer care.

What does this approach to care mean for you?

  • Multidisciplinary team for personalized care: Our multidisciplinary panel of breast-focused experts — breast-focused medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, breast-focused surgeons, plastic and reconstruction surgeons, physical therapists and our breast cancer nurse navigator — meets weekly to review every newly diagnosed breast cancer patient. Together, they combine their collective expertise and craft custom-tailored treatments for your individual needs, taking into account your goals and personal preferences.
  • Quality care: As one of the most comprehensive breast cancer programs in Northern Colorado, we are fully accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), administered by the American College of Surgeons. A program that achieves NAPBC accreditation offers its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

Also, as an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Surgical Quality Partner, we’re committed to the highest standards of surgical care for cancer patients. This designation reflects our proven record of adhering to the most rigorous standards in surgical quality.
  • Complementary therapies: Our Center for Integrative Care supports you with an array of evidence-informed therapies that complement conventional cancer treatments and can aid healing and recovery. These therapies include such things as acupuncture, Reiki, oncology massage and meditation sound bath.
  • Imaging prestigious designation: The imaging department at Foothills Hospital has received the prestigious designation of being a Designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Centerby the American College of Radiology.

A facility is eligible to receive the ACR Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center designation if it is fully accredited by ACR in all of the following modalities:
    • Mammography
    • Stereotactic breast biopsy
    • Breast ultrasound, including the ultrasound-guided breast biopsy module
    • MRI accreditation in the breast module
  • Nurse navigator program: You’re never alone on your journey. Our compassionate breast cancer navigator is with you every step of the way to coordinate your care, provide emotional support, and connect you to physical therapy, support groups and complementary therapies. For more information, please contact Nanna Bo Christensen, RN, OCN, CBCN, Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator, 303-415-7057 or nchristensen@bch.org
  • Nutrition workshops: To support your nutritional health and well-being we offer bi-weekly webinars that include live cooking demonstrations. Sign up here.
  • Exercise and yoga classes: To help you manage cancer both mentally and physically.
  • Physical therapy: Whether it’s a lumpectomy or a double mastectomy, breast cancer surgeries often come with side effects such as loss of range of motion, pain and lymphedema. Our physical therapists are a critical component for recovering from breast cancer surgery and trained in breast cancer rehabilitation and lymphedema management.
  • Clinical trials: Clinical trials are sometimes the best option for treating breast cancer. Together with Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers and US Oncology Research, we are able to provide you with access to the latest clinical trials involving new investigational cancer agents.
  • Support groups and social workers: Our breast cancer support group is for those who would like to connect with other people going through the breast cancer journey. Our caregiver support group allows for discussion, information gathering and support among individuals who are supporting family and friends with breast cancer. View a list of support groups. In addition, RMCC has a team of social workers in its Boulder clinic for emotional help.
  • BCH Foundation support: The BCH Foundation provides funds to support economically vulnerable patients.
