BCH Foundation Workforce Development: Empowering Staff and Physicians

At the Boulder Community Health (BCH) Foundation, we are committed to investing in the professional growth, physical health, and mental well-being of Boulder Community Health’s greatest asset—our dedicated staff and physicians. The generosity of our community and the support from the Hoover Family Center for Education Excellence enable us to offer a wide range of initiatives to uphold this commitment.

Key Initiatives to Support BCH Employees

  • Enhanced Tuition Reimbursement: Through the Hoover Family Center for Education Excellence fund, BCH is able to provide financial assistance for degree programs, covering tuition, books and fees up to $5,250 annually. This benefit applies to various degrees, including associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees as well as advanced practice certifications for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and Midwives.
  • Continuing Education: BCH supports employees in maintaining their licensure and certifications by reimbursing costs associated with short courses, conferences, webinars and other relevant training.
  • Certification Reimbursement: Financial support is provided for employees pursuing or renewing certifications, including coursework, training, testing and recertification fees.

Since the launch of the Hoover Family Center for Education Excellence in 2022, the program has been instrumental in fulfilling the BCH Foundation’s vision for workforce development. Over the past three years, Boulder Community Health has seen significant growth in educational support, impacting over 1,080 employees across multiple departments. In 2024 alone, the program allocated $363,225 in educational assistance, benefiting 436 BCH employees.

Real Stories of Impact

"Thank you for providing education assistance, not only to me but to other employees at BCH. I have been with BCH for five years and have gradually expanded my role during that time. I started as a Unit Coordinator, then worked as a Patient Care Assistant, followed by a Nurse Extern after my first year in nursing school, and now I am a Registered Nurse. Becoming a nurse has been a long-time goal of mine, and I am truly excited to continue advancing in my career. The education assistance program has been invaluable in helping me further my education and enhance the care I provide to my patients. As a new nurse, I’m not sure if I would have been able to continue expanding my knowledge without this support. I’m incredibly grateful for your generosity. Thanks to this assistance, I am well on my way to earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing." - Cynthia Villar, Registered Nurse, BCH

Tangible Results: Employee Retention and Growth

These initiatives have resulted in significant improvements in our workforce metrics. In 2024, employees who received educational assistance experienced a remarkable 94.36% retention rate, demonstrating the value of these investments. Compared to general retention rates for all BCH employees, at 78% in 2024, and 79% in 2023, it is clear the Hoover Family Center for Education Excellence is encouraging organizational growth and loyalty among our valued staff and caregivers.

By prioritizing the development and well-being of our employees, the BCH Foundation not only fosters a culture of continuous improvement within our organization but also benefits the broader community. Through strategic investments in education and professional growth, BCH ensures that our workforce is equipped with the skills and expertise necessary to deliver exceptional health care.

BCH continues to be dedicated to cultivating a strong, adaptable workforce that delivers exceptional care to our community, and the Foundation is committed to supporting BCH in this work.
