Honor your caregiver with a "Show You Care" Gratitude Pin

Retired paramedic, Bill Bergen has been living in Boulder for 50+ years and has volunteered over 1,800 hours of his time at BCH in our Emergency Department and Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion. He shares that, “I am both a volunteer and an extremely grateful patient of the Emergency Department at BCH.”

In 2024, Bill came into the Emergency Department with significant pain, which he was treated for immediately. After his positive experience, Bill wanted to find a way to give back to two of the exceptional nurses who cared for him.

The BCH Foundation is committed to offering grateful patients many ways to get involved and give back to their community health system. One way that our patients choose to honor their caregivers is through the gift of a “Show You Care” Gratitude Pin. With the gift of a pin, you not only support our local health system – you also can share a message of thanks to your caregiver to let them know how their care made a difference in your stay.

Bill gifted one of these special pins to Bill Bergen sitting in patient roomeach of the two nurses and shared his Grateful Patient story with us.

“The Triage Nurse spotted me when I walked into the Emergency Department and immediately took charge in caring for me. In just a few minutes, she thoughtfully and expertly evaluated me and handed me off to be treated. I am sure this is her normal practice, but I felt that she went above and beyond what a non-critical patient might expect.

The Registered Nurse that treated me also acted immediately to assess my status, ease my pain, comfort my wife, and brief the provider. He was compassionate, professional, kind and demonstrated exceptional skill meaning that I felt completely safe in his care.

I believe that first line responders and caregivers seldom get the acknowledgement they deserve. These two nurses demonstrated what it is to be the best of the best and this Grateful Patient Program, in a small way, allows me to tell them just how special they are.”

Thanks to the expert care that Bill received, he continues to care for our community and support our BCH caregivers as a volunteer.
