Foothills Hospital among best places to have a baby: U.S. News

Wanting the best for your newborn starts with great maternity care. To help guide expectant parents, U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has released its 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care — and our Foothills Hospital made the list once again.

Jennifer Winston, U.S. News & World Report’s health data scientist, said in a news release that the 2025 list is the most comprehensive since it began evaluating hospitals in 2021. The publication evaluated an all-time high of 817 hospitals that provided labor and delivery data, but only about half have been named 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

All the 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care have been recognized on the list as "High Performing."

“These high-performing hospitals showcase exceptional care for expectant parents, demonstrating significantly lower C-section rates and severe unexpected newborn complications compared to hospitals not recognized by U.S. News,” Winston said.

According to U.S. News, hospitals that receive a “High Performing” designation as part of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care meet a high standard in caring for patients with uncomplicated pregnancies because they:

  • Are 47% more likely to be designated as “Baby-Friendly” by Baby Friendly USA, indicating a hospital has taken important steps to support breastfeeding.
  • Have C-section rates 22% lower compared with maternity care hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.
  • Have severe unexpected newborn complication rates 44% lower compared with maternity care hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.
  • Have episiotomy rates 33% lower compared with maternity care hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.
  • Have breast milk feeding rates 12% higher compared with maternity care hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.
  • Are 13% more likely to report race/ethnicity data for both C-section and severe unexpected newborn complications compared with maternity care hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.

“I am proud and honored that our maternity care team has been recognized by U.S. News as one of the best maternity hospitals in the U.S.,” said Lisa Allen, BCH’s Director of Nursing and Family Birth Center. “This national recognition reflects the remarkable dedication, collaboration and expertise of our OB-GYNs, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff for helping families have the safest and best birth experience.”

Congrats to our Family Birth Center at Foothills Hospital!
