August 17 is National Nonprofit Day recognizing the positive impacts nonprofits have on our communities around the world. Established in 1978, the Boulder Community Health (BCH) Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
A nonprofit organization is one whose goal is to further a shared mission rather than to generate profit – all BCH Foundation profits, or proceeds, are reinvested the advancement and expansion of health care services. Nonprofit budgets are determined by a Board of Trustees who ensure the fair distribution of funds to each community cause, as well as operating costs such as infrastructure and personnel. Our cause at the BCH Foundation is to inspire giving in support of BCH to enhance the quality and availability of health care in Boulder County.
This year the BCH Foundation published its inaugural Impact Report. Included in the report are snapshots of several of the many successful programs that our donor community has made possible. Our intention is to highlight these programs and the deep influence that this work has had on ensuring everyone has access to the care and resources they need to thrive.
Five ways the BCH Foundation supported BCH in 2023:
- Granted $139,251 in direct patient assistance funds to 268 patients receiving Oncology, Behavioral Health, or Cardiology care at BCH.
- Invested in a second da Vinci Surgical System leading to a 39% increase in robotic-assisted surgeries last year.
- Awarded $325,798 to 373 employees to support ongoing education through the Hoover Family Center for Education Excellence.
- Worked with over 350 volunteers (including 40 dogs!) who gave nearly 30,000 total hours of volunteer time to BCH in 2023.
- Raised over $4 million to support investments in Our Patients, Our Community, and Our Workforce.
The Foundation’s assets of over $61 million allow us to continually invest in the advancement and availability of services. As a result, the BCH Foundation has granted near $20 million to BCH in support of various capital and programmatic priorities over the past 5 years. Our 4-star rating on Charity Navigator demonstrates our commitment to good stewardship, financial responsibility, and transparency.
