COVID-19 Vaccine Update: 2,700 Vaccinations Administered

Boulder Community Health (BCH) has started the new year with some impressive data regarding COVID vaccinations. To date, we have vaccinated almost 75% of BCH employees and medical staff. As of Jan. 5, 2021, our vaccine clinic has administered just over 2,700 COVID vaccinations to BCH health care workers; affiliated health care workers who see patients at BCH facilities; and first responders from the Boulder police and fire departments, Boulder-based AMR employees and the University of Colorado Police Department.

Vaccines for Patients 70 and Older
Last week, Gov. Jared Polis approved providing the COVID-19 vaccine to state residents age 70 and older. BCH has already started vaccinating our most at-risk patients in this age group, i.e. patients who have a serious chronic medical condition such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease or liver disease.

With our current vaccine supply, we can only vaccinate a limited number of 70 and older patients each week. Currently, we are vaccinating approximately 500 individuals per day with plans to expand based on vaccine supply.

Patients are notified through the MyBCH patient portal as soon as they are eligible to schedule their vaccine appointment. We are contacting all BCH patients in this age category to request that they proactively create a MyBCH account to facilitate this process. For this specific patient population, patients who do not schedule within 72 hours of receiving their notification and patients who do not set up a MyBCH account will receive a call to assist with appointment scheduling. Second Doses Have Begun
On Jan. 4, 2021, BCH began providing second doses of vaccine to employees and medical staff vaccinated in December. We continue to receive additional vaccine shipments weekly, and our vaccination clinic team has been working around the clock to make sure we get the maximum benefit from those shipments. In fact, our dedicated Pharmacy team has expanded our vaccine supply by an additional 15% through carefully extracting the full number of available vaccine doses per vial – six doses for Pfizer and 11 doses for Moderna.
