Drug Addiction: Reducing the Harmful Effects

LEARN ABOUT HARM REDUCTION & LOCAL SYRINGE ACCESS PROGRAMS

Drug addiction is considered both a complex brain disorder and a mental illness. While some people can successfully manage their condition, others don’t always have the resources, support or even the desire to seek treatment. That’s where harm reduction can help.

Harm reduction programs do not aim to eliminate addiction, but strive to diminish its damaging consequences and promote optimal health for people who use drugs.

Come learn about Boulder County Public Health’s harm reduction strategies and how its Works Program — a needle exchange — is helping to reduce the risk of infectious disease among Boulder County residents who inject drugs.
