BCH oncologist Dr. David Andorsky recently spoke with Denver 7's Nicole Brady during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month about some important lifestyle changes that can help lower your risk of developing colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer, but fortunately, it is very treatable with early detection. In addition to following recommended screening guidelines from your physician, there are important lifestyle changes you can make to reduce your risk factors for the disease. Says Dr. Andorsky, "The single most useful thing you can do is exercise. There was a study a number of years ago that showed that the most active people have a 25% lower risk for colorectal cancer than the least active people." He also cites avoiding tobacco use and maintaining a health body weight as key preventive measures.
