Dr. Leland advised attendees to choose well-cushioned walking shoes and to work walking into your regular daily routine, whether it's walking with your dog, walking with a buddy, or walking as you shop. For people who are experiencing pain that gets in the way of regular walking, he described a range of treatment options.
Boulder Community Health, our Walk with the Doc coordinator, Gina Simmering, and our physician champion, the incomparable cardiologist Dr. Nelson Trujillo, are incredibly grateful to our community partners, who help make these monthly walks the special community resource they have become in this program's first year.
Each month, volunteers for Via Mobility Services drive Walk With a Doc fans from Golden West to participate in the walks, which are held at different parks around Boulder, thanks to the our wonderful event partner, the City of Boulder’s Parks & Recreation, which also provides pre-walk stretching sessions led their team of fitness and health professionals. Natural Grocers provides healthy snacks, Starbucks provides delicious coffee, Eldorado Springs Water hydrates us, Boulder Fire + Rescue and AMR provide emergency backup, Grillo Health Information Center educates our walkers, and Pedestrian Shops, Furniture For Life, Elements Massage, and NextHealth all offer generous support.
Join us for our next walk featuring a talk on "Walking and Stroke Risk" on July 14 at Harlow Platts Park (1360 Gillaspie Drive) in Boulder with the one and only Dr. Nelson Trujillo of Boulder Heart.
