Last Saturday, a gaggle of curious Canadian geese greeted 130 walkers at South Boulder's Harlow Platts Park, with its scenic path looping around wetlands and a large pond. It was another gorgeous summer morning to gather for our monthly Walk with a Doc (WWAD) event, and walk together to explore Boulder's fantastic parks.
Our WWAD regulars and several newcomers of all ages enjoyed hot Starbucks coffee, yummy snacks and conversation before listening to cardiologist Dr. Jamie Doucet of Boulder Heart explain that walking and moderate activity can help reduce stroke risk by up to 50 percent.
Join us for our next walk on August 11 at Tom Watson Park/Coot Lake (6180 63rd Street) in northeast Boulder, from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.! Orthopedic and family medicine physician Dr. Sherrie Ballantine of CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center will discuss Walking as Medicine, including tips for walking as part of recovery from a health event such as injury, childbirth, surgery. To get a preview of Dr. Ballantine's talk, watch her recent interview with Denver7 News. For the schedule and details, visit bch.org/walkwithadoc.
