Era Mae Kassaii arrived about a week earlier than expected, at 6:00 a.m. at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, becoming the first baby born in the city of Boulder.
?More meaningfully to her parents, Lisa and Neema Kassaii of Niwot, she arrived in perfect health, delivered by Dr. Kerry Shea of Boulder Women's Care. “I think she got the message she was going to be the first at something,” said Neema Kassaii, 33.
Era continues a family tradition: Lisa Kassaii was born at Boulder Community Hospital’s Broadway location 32 years ago. She and Neema met while undergraduates at CU Boulder.
Era, who weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 21 inches long, is named in honor of her maternal grandmother, Rose Era Lundeen.
Era joins big sister, Leila Kassaii, age 2. The girls’ proud paternal grandmother, Zora Kassaii, was visiting Boulder for the holidays and was overjoyed to welcome new granddaughter Era in person.
"Dr. Shea was just lovely," Lisa said, as she recovered in a spacious room at the Family Birth Center. "It's so comfortable to be able to share the large family bed, and the views of the Foothills are incredible."
Lisa Kassaii is a portrait photographer at Lisa Kassaii Photography. Neema Kassaii is cofounder of ULAX, a national network of adult lacrosse leagues and tournaments.
