Our Community

We believe everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to reach their full health potential, both physically and mentally.

We know not everyone has equal or equitable access to health care, and that multiple factors outside of health care determine our mental and physical health. While BCH cannot solve for all the health barriers the greater Boulder community faces, the Foundation can enhance access to health care, and provide social and economic support to improve the health and wellbeing of BCH patients and the larger patient community.

The BCH Foundation aims to make an impact by investing in the following programmatic areas:

Patient Assistance

Supporting individual patients in overcoming the social and economic barriers to health.

Patient Assistance programs

Anchor Point Mental Health Endowment: Offers grants that will enable individuals to receive mental health care and support services that would otherwise not be available to them. These grants are being made across four core priority areas: transitions, treatment, health and wellness and education.

  • Breast Cancer Treatment Fund: Supports individuals diagnosed with breast cancer and receiving care at the Cancer Center at Tebo Family Medical Building and experiencing financial vulnerability, to access the care they need.
  • Heart to Heart Fund: Provides financial assistance to cardiac patients so they have one less worry and can focus on their health, wellness, and recovery. The grants made from this fund support patients in the prevention, treatment, and management of their cardiac health.
  • The Red Lipstick Fund: Offers financial assistance to cancer patients receiving care at BCH so they have one less worry and can focus on getting through their cancer treatment.
  • Oncology Support Programs - The Foundation supports patients receiving or recovering from cancer care at the Tebo Family Medical Building by offering a variety of classes, including Tai Chi, exercise, writing, art, equine therapy, support groups, nutrition, and self-image workshops. The goal is to help patients stay committed to their treatment.

  • Discounted Heart Scans - Improves access to heart scans and reduces the risk of undiagnosed cardiac issues for patients who might otherwise face barriers to receiving this vital preventative care.

Community Health

Supporting non-clinical efforts, working within the BCH patient communities in culturally relevant ways, to improve health outcomes through addressing the social and economic barriers to health.

Community Health programs

  • Helmet Program - Promoting population health by increasing awareness of basic safety through proper helmet fitting. This initiative includes providing helmets and educational resources at an annual event.
  • Project HEALS (Health Equity in Achieving Long-term Solutions): This project will allow the Case Management team to help care for patients experiencing barriers to post acute care because of a number of factors, including housing, behavioral health, traumatic brain injuries, dementia, and other social and economic barriers.

One part of the grant will fund a bed at a respite care facility run by Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, to assist in providing post-acute care to individuals who are too medically vulnerable to return to the street or Boulder Shelter, but no longer require hospital inpatient care. The second part of the grant will provide patients with in-home care for up to 10-days, four hours per day, to assist in the transition from inpatient to being home.

Community Collaboration

The Foundation supports BCH in capacity building through igniting new partnerships, accelerating existing partnerships, or funding partnerships that need financial support. Many of these collaborations support work to improve the social determinants that are impacting health outcomes and are within BCH’s ability to influence.
