Lifestyle medicine – also known as whole person health – is a medical specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle changes to treat chronic conditions like heart disease. How we eat, move, cope with stress, and connect with others has a big impact on how we feel, age, and manage our health.
Lifestyle Medicine Series
Dates: Thursdays, Aug. 15, 22 & 29 and Sept. 5 & 12

In this 5-week series, we will focus on positive lifestyle changes in the areas of nutrition, movement and mindfulness. You will learn:
- How the heart responds to lifestyle choices and the benefits of making a few positive changes
- How to foster a healthy relationship with food and tips for healthy eating
- How to build exercise into our everyday lives
- How to use stress management techniques
- Q & A with all lifestyle educators during the last class

Michelle MacDonald, MS, RDN, CDCES
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist & Certified Diabetes Care + Education Specialist | Nutrition Instructor
With more than 15 years of experience, MacDonald believes that patients can prevent and delay the diseases linked to aging and inflammation with diet - one delicious bite at a time.
Katharine Houlik Doering, CSCS
Supervisor of Health, Wellness and Gymnastics, City of Boulder Parks & Recreation | Movement Instructor
In her eight years with the City of Boulder, Kate has been devoted to improving the health and wellbeing of the entire Boulder community. She has more than 20 years of experience helping people live an active and healthy lifestyle, including personal training, teaching group fitness classes and fitness certification courses, running a private gym, and managing campus recreation programs.
Kara Traikoff, MA
Wellness Program Specialist, Boulder County Area Agency on Aging | Mindfulness Instructor
Kara, who has a background in higher education and community mindfulness, specializes in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and adapted mindfulness courses to support healing, growth and self-compassion. Kara leads and creates wellness opportunities from the heart of her dedicated personal mindfulness practice.
