Dr. Laura Harmon is a trauma, critical care, and acute care surgeon. She attended medical school at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, general surgery residency at Baylor Scott and White, trauma/surgical critical care fellowship and acute care surgery fellowship at the world-renowned University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. From there Dr. Harmon took a faculty position at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. In 2021, Dr. Harmon joined Boulder Community Health as the Trauma Medical Director and ultimately the Chair of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Harmon is the first board certified traumatologist at Boulder Community Health and is committed to promoting evidence-based practice that is patient centric. Dr. Harmon is an avid surgeon scientist and has over 30 peer reviewed publications, has led national multicenter trials, and has written multiple book chapters on the care of the traumatically injured patient. Dr. Harmon is committed to access to care for everyone and serves as the chair of a national surgical society committee dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion. In 2023, Dr. Harmon received the Schwartz Foundation National Compassionate Caregiver Award. Perhaps most importantly, Dr. Harmon is passionate about building and sustaining a trauma center that provides world class care to the community in which she lives. Although Dr. Harmon loves the ins and outs of trauma care, it is not uncommon to find her chatting with patients about bee keeping, cycling and chainsaws.
