Bob Yates was elected to the BCH Board after serving for eight years on the Boulder City Council. A graduate of University of California’s Hastings College of the Law, Bob practiced hospital law in his hometown of Omaha in the 1980s and 90s, before helping form fiber-optic company Level 3 Communications in 1997. After serving as Level 3’s European General Council and President in London, Bob returned to the Fortune 500 company’s Colorado headquarters, where he led more than two dozen corporate acquisitions with an aggregate value in excess of $10 billion.

After retirement, Bob served his new hometown of Boulder through leadership roles on the boards of the Museum of Boulder, Colorado Chautauqua Association, Boulder Parks and Recreation, Dairy Arts Center, Downtown Boulder Partnership, the Conference on World Affairs, Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau, Boulder Housing Partners, and the University of Colorado’s Center for Leadership. He has taught law school courses at the University of Colorado and the University of Denver, read to kindergartners through the YWCA Reading to End Racism program, and is a Boulder-CU Leadership Program mentor. During his two terms on the Boulder City Council (2015-23), Bob led the community in solutions to challenges in housing, homelessness, transportation, energy efficiency, community vitality, public safety, and fiscal sustainability.

Bob and Katy, his wife of more than 40 years, have traveled to all 50 states and to more than 60 countries. They have two grown sons who live in Brooklyn.
