Audiology/Hearing Services

An invisible and usually painless disability that has a tremendous impact on a person’s quality of life. Boulder Community Hospital’s experienced and professionally licensed audiologists can provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic services, along with expert help in choosing and properly fitting hearing aids and other assistive devices.

Our audiologists are specialists in treating infants and young children. We can provide adults and children with customized hearing protection, swimming earplugs and ear molds for cell phones.

Diagnostic Services include:

  • Comprehensive, customized hearing evaluations for children, adults and seniors
  • Computer-enhanced hearing tests for individuals with disabilities that prohibit conventional testing
  • Testing for dizziness and balance problems related to the inner ear
  • Specialized tests for diagnosing Meniere’s Disease

Many hearing difficulties can be helped by properly selected and fitted hearing aids. Your evaluation will be performed by a licensed audiologist using equipment and procedures that meet the highest standards available. Our audiologists are not on commission, so we strive to find you the best option within your budget.

Hearing Aid Services include:

  • Complete hearing evaluation
  • Computer analysis of your present  hearing aid
  • Selection of hearing aids from reputable manufacturers
  • Fitting and orientation
  • Thirty-day trial period
  • Follow-up for one year
  • Repair services

Augmentative Communication

Augmentative Communication and Assistive Technology Services provides comprehensive evaluation and intervention services to both children and adults with significantly limited verbal skills due to accidents, illness, developmental delay or birth injury.

Services provided:
  • Full range of communication devices used for both assessment and intervention
  • Consultations on wheelchair keyboard mounting and mouse adaptations for computer access
  • Help in setting up controls in your home to operate electronic devices
  • Trial use and help in finding where to buy recreational and play adaptive toys
  • Coordination of services with outside agencies and vendors
  • Assistance with researching funding options
  • Follow-up visits for equipment training

Our experienced staff strives to ensure that our clients’ technology choices are the best match for their physical limitations and lifestyle needs. Our unique evaluation/therapy facility is specially designed for demonstrating the latest in assistive technology and environmental control devices.

Hand & Upper Extremity Therapy

Using a combination of treatment techniques, exercises, education and state-of-the-art technology and equipment, our certified hand therapists help patients achieve healing and maximum functional use of their hands and arms.  We see one patient at a time so that we can focus on each individual's needs and concerns.

Our therapists are highly skilled in all aspects of hand therapy including manual therapy, custom splinting, wound care, and lymphedema treatment.  They are all certified hand therapists (CHT's) and regularly participate in continuing education. 

Our individualized treatment plans focus on pain control and healing.  Treatment emphasizes therapies designed to increase strength, coordination and range of motion and return to use of the injured arm as quickly and fully as possible.

Commonly treated conditions include:

  • Tendinitis                                                      
  • Fractures/crush injuries
  • Epicondylitis
  • Nerve entrapments
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome

 Pilates

Pilates is a form of whole body conditioning that aims to improve the fluidity and efficiency of a person’s movements, to enhance overall body awareness and to prevent and rehabilitate injuries.

Benefits of Pilates Exercises:

  • Increases blood flow to improve the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to damaged tissues
  • Improves abdominal and back muscle strength
  • Leads to whole-body strength and flexibility
  • Improves coordination and balance
  • Results in better posture and body alignment
  • Helps improve body awareness

Our Pilates practitioner is a physical therapist with extensive training in functional anatomy and biomechanics. This specialized knowledge allows her to identify movement patterns that can actually worsen an injury. Additionally, we can break down improper movement patterns and teach you new ways to move more efficiently and healthfully.

Conditions treated include:

  • Pre- and post-partum conditioning and treatment for muscle weakness and other dysfunctions
  • Neurological conditions that cause dysfunctional movements
  • Fatigue and pain caused by prolonged improper posture
  • Chronic pain disorders

Warm Water Therapy

Our warm water (94°F) therapy pool is excellent for rehabilitation, general exercise and conditioning. It's also perfect for children who have avoided learning to swim because the water was too cold.

Warm water therapy helps relax tight muscles and ease pain. It's much easier to walk and exercise in the water because you don't need to fight gravity. This makes our therapy pool a great environment for the elderly, injured and pregnant.

Our warm pool is the only facility of its kind in the Boulder Valley thats available to the public as well as patients.

Benefits of warm water therapy include:

  • Increased strength, endurance, mobility, flexibility and range of motion

Wheelchair Seating & Mobility Services

Wheelchair Seating and Mobility Services can help children and adults with significantly limited physical mobility find the most suitable type of adaptive seating.

Services provided:
  • Help in choosing the most appropriate manual or power wheelchair seating and/or positioning system
  • Many wheelchair and seating systems are available for on-site trials
  • Consultations on keyboard mounting and mouse adaptations for computer access
  • Help in setting up controls in your home to operate electronic devices
  • Assistance with researching funding options
  • Follow-up visits for equipment training
