Rheumatologists deal mainly with clinical problems involving joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, inflammation of the blood vessels and connective tissue disorders. Common conditions diagnosed and treated by rheumatologists include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and osteoporosis. These physicians have training in internal medicine and an additional two years of specialized training in rheumatology.
