John Campbell has practiced as a Physician Assistant in the Boulder area for over 8 years. He specializes in the treatment of adult medicine. John received his master’s in medical science and physician assistant training at Emory University in Atlanta. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Colorado. As a physician assistant, he maintains certification with the NCCPA, licensure with the Colorado Medical Board, and licensure for prescriptions through the DEA. John, who is a native of Boulder, enjoys spending his time off with his wife and two boys. John stays busy coaching a variety of sports teams that his children participate in and by cycling. Elizabeth Cruse, MD. Dr. Cruse is a board-certified internist who focuses on the treatment and prevention of adult illnesses and injuries. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Cruse also brings a unique interest in women’s health to our Lafayette clinic.
Dr. Cruse received her medical degree from Baylor College and completed her residency at the University of Rochester in New York. Her undergraduate degree is from Brown University. Prior to joining Internal Medicine Associates, Dr. Cruse practiced internal medicine at Memorial City Hospital in Houston.
A member of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Cruse also served as an assistant professor for the University of Texas Health Science Center, where she was honored with the Dean’s Award for teaching. She recently relocated to Boulder with her husband and three children to be closer to the mountains and enjoy our outdoor lifestyle. Denise Kawecki, FNP (No photo available.) Boulder Community Internal Medicine invited Denise Kawecki to join the practice in May of 2007. Denise is a Certified Nurse Practitioner who received her Masters of Science in Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She is licensed and certified as a Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and State of Colorado Advanced Practice Registry. Prior to joining Boulder Community Internal Medicine Denise worked for Boulder Community Hospital as a Licensed Practical nurse for 3 years and a Registered Nurse for 4 years. Denise was born and raised in DuBois, Pennsylvania and is an avid reader who enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband. Dr. Brubaker received his medical degree in 1972 from Philadelphia's Jefferson Medical College. His undergraduate degree is from Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has been practicing internal medicine locally since 1977. Prior to settling in Boulder, he completed his residency at Presbyterian Medical Center in Denver and spent two years in the U.S. Army. In addition to his over two decades in active practice, Dr. Brubaker has collaborated on numerous research projects, including studies involving hypertension, headaches, osteoarthritis, bronchitis, pneumonia, yeast infections, dysmenorrhea and urinary tract infections. He has staff privileges at Boulder Community Hospital. Dr. Brubaker and his wife have a daughter. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, golf and bicycling. Anthony Dobija, M.D.
Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Tony Dobija was in general practice in Hugo, Colorado for two years before moving to Boulder in 2002 and joining Internal Medicine Associates. He did his clinical training at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and completed his internal medicine residency program at Columbus Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Dobija is a native of Poland, where he practiced medicine for nine years. He is married and has three children. His interests include history, tennis, skiing and traveling. Mark Haimes, M.D.
Dr. Haimes received his medical degree in 1977 from the University of Illinois. He completed his internship and residency at Evanston Hospital of Northwestern University. His undergraduate degree is a B.A. in Chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has been practicing internal medicine locally since 1980. He is a native of New York state. Dr. Haimes considers himself fortunate to be a physician in Boulder with its very interesting population. He particularly enjoys learning about the social, family and professional lives of his patients. He has staff privileges at Boulder Community Hospital. He and his wife have a daughter and a son. In his spare time, his passion is growing and breeding magnolias. Shirley Huang, M.D.
Board certified in geriatrics and internal medicine, Dr. Huang joined Internal Medicine Associates in September of 2009. She and her husband moved to Colorado from the Northeast, where she had been a substitute physician in the rehabilitation, nursing home and outpatient settings for a year. She received a combined medical and business degree (Healthcare Management) from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston in 2004. Her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry is from Brandeis University. She returned to her native state of New Jersey for her internal medicine residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and then pursued a geriatric fellowship at North Shore University Hospital in Long Island, New York. Dr. Huang is an active member of the American Geriatrics Society and a former Tufts student chapter founder for the American College of Physicians. Dr. Keidan specializes in the care of patients with complex medical problems as well as preventive medicine, with particular strengths in the prevention and treatment of cardio-vascular diseases and diabetes. Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Keidan came to Boulder from Boston, where he was an internist and hospitalist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a member of the teaching faculty of Harvard Medical School. Before that, he was chief medical resident at George Washington University Medical School in Washington, D.C. Dr. Keidan was born and raised in Michigan where he earned his MD with from Wayne State University and his BA from the University of Michigan. An avid hiker, skier, and trail runner, he has completed several triathlons and marathons including both the Chicago and Boston Marathon. Dr. Keidan came to Boulder in 2005 where he lives with his two daughters, Sarah and Gabrielle. Valerie Lipetz, M.D.
Dr. Lipetz received her medical degree with honors from the University of Colorado in 1988. She also has an M.A. in Biology and a B.A. in Psychology from CU. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been practicing locally since 1991. Except for four years in Denver for medical school and a three-year residency in Portland, she has called Boulder home since 1958. Dr. Lipetz has staff privileges at Boulder Community Hospital. An active community volunteer, Dr. Lipetz has served as president of the American Heart Association's Boulder County Division and Boulder Community Hospital's Medical Staff. Additionally, she has been a volunteer teacher at the University of Colorado's Health Sciences Center since the early 90s, and is an assistant clinical professor of medicine there. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, fly fishing, hiking, and practicing Okinawan Karate. Nancy Peterson, PA-C
Nancy Peterson received her Master of Medical Science degree and Physician Assistant (PA) certification at Emory University in 1991. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Nancy is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Prior to joining Internal Medicine Associates, Nancy had a position as a PA at a Boulder internal medicine practice for eight years and spent a year at a gynecology practice. Previously, she served as a PA at Grady Memorial Hospital’s Sickle Cell Center and at a private orthopedic surgery practice, both in Atlanta, GA. Nancy is a native of Boulder and enjoys spending time with her husband and three boys, biking and other outdoor activities.
