Broadway Avenue Reconstruction

Project

The City of Boulder’s Broadway Avenue reconstruction project is underway.  We will update this site regularly with anticipated road closures, turning restrictions and driving recommendations.  The road closures can change daily, so we encourage you to check this site prior to visiting Boulder Community Hospital, Boulder Medical Center, Mapleton Center for Rehabilitation, Boulder Center for Sports Medicine or surrounding physician offices.

Please note that all construction activity south of North Street has been completed.

Temporary Bus Stop Closure
Southbound buses on Broadway Avenue will temporarily bypass the bus stop just south of Balsam.  This action is being taken because of safety issues related to paving work on Broadway Avenue.  Buses will continue to use the stop one block south (just north of North Street).  Normal bus service is anticipated to resume around November 20.

Alpine Avenue Construction and Hospital Parking

Alpine Avenue west of Broadway has re-opened. This means that the main entrance to the hospital parking garage is open as well.

There is still no left turn from northbound Broadway onto Alpine Avenue.

We recommend the following driving route when traveling NORTH on Broadway to reach the hospital parking garage:

  • Make a left on North Street, which is one block south of Alpine.
  • Immediately look for a sign identifying the driveway for the hospital garage.
  • Make a right into the driveway.
  • Note that 9th Street runs parallel to Broadway and will be open at all times.

We recommend the following driving route when traveling NORTH on Broadway to reach the physician offices in the Medical Pavilion on Alpine:

  • Make a left on North Street, which is one block south of Alpine.
  • Make a right onto 9th Street.
  • Make another right onto Alpine Avenue.
  • Note that 9th Street runs parallel to Broadway and will be open at all times.

Hospital Bus Stop
Southbound buses on Broadway Avenue are temporarily bypassing the bus stop just south of Balsam.  This action is being taken because of safety issues related to paving work on Broadway Avenue.  Buses will continue to use the stop one block south (just north of North Street).

Normal service is anticipated to resume around November 20.

Lane Closures South of Dellwood
Broadway is currently reduced to one lane in each direction from North Street to Dellwood Avenue 24 hours a day.  Left turns from Broadway in this section will be prohibited where marked.

This affects motorists traveling southbound on Broadway who are trying to reach the Boulder Community Hospital parking garage and physician offices in the Medical Pavilion. In order to avoid the single lane slowdown, we recommend using the driving route outlined above.

Boulder Medical Center:

When traveling SOUTH on Broadway, avoid the single lane slowdown by turning left at Elder Avenue, then right onto 13th Street. Then take a right onto Balsam Avenue.

When traveling NORTH on Broadway, avoid the single lane slowdown by turning right on North Street, then left onto 13th Street. Then take a left onto Balsam Avenue.

Mapleton Center for Rehabilitation and Boulder Center for Sports Medicine:

When traveling SOUTH on Broadway, avoid the single lane slowdown by turning right at Evergreen Avenue, then left onto 9th Street to access Maxwell or Mapleton. Take a right onto either of those streets.

General Recommendations:

Please allow extra time when traveling to Boulder Community Hospital, Boulder Medical Center, Mapleton Center for Rehabilitation, Boulder Center for Sports Medicine or nearby physician offices since traffic on Broadway is moving slower due to the lane reduction.

We suggest using 9th Street just west of Broadway as an alternative north/south roadway; it runs parallel to Broadway and will be open at all times.

Please adjust your travel plans accordingly and share this information with anyone who may be affected. This website will be updated regularly with new road closure information and recommended driving routes.
